Electron microscopy center

The electron microscopy center of National Institute of Biological Sciences, Beijing provides advanced services in electron microscopy, from sample preparation to image analysis, for structural investigation of a wide variety of biological samples. We are also dedicated to developing novel genetically encoded tags for EM visualization, and introducing new techniques to expand the application of electron microscopy in biology.

The center is equipped with Thermo Fisher Tecnai spirit G2 (120kV), Wolhwend HPF compact01, Leica EMPACT2, Leica AFS2, Leica UC7/FC7, FEI Vitrobot IV, and we are providing the following services:

1. Sample preparation

Chemical fixation, high pressure freezing, freeze-substitution, cryo-electron microscopy of vitreous sections (CEMOVIS), immunoelectron microscopy (pre-embedding, post-embedding, Tokuyasu cryosectioning technique), negative staining, plunge freezing, correlated light and electron microscopy (CLEM), and so on

2. Electron microscopy analysis

2D imaging, electron tomography, 3D reconstruction of tomograms or serial sections, segmentation and surface rendering, correlated light and electron microscopy

3. User training and consulting
