2023 Rui Wu Scholarship Winner- Dr Zhou Rui, NIBS/TIMBR

The Rui Wu Memorial Foundation (RWMF) has established the Rui Wu Scholarship for outstanding postgraduate students since 2009, with the aim of inspiring postgraduate students in the life sciences to strive to mould themselves into future academic leaders in the field of life sciences, as well as honouring the outstanding contribution of Professor Rui Wu in nurturing a new generation of biologists in China.

The 2023 Rui Wu Scholarship was awarded to our student Zhou Rui. Zhou Rui is a PhD candidate in the class of 2016, and is engaged in research related to the molecular regulatory mechanisms of sleep under the guidance of Liu Qinghua at NIBS/TIMBR. Zhou Rui's research was published in Nature in December 2022, which revealed the core molecular pathway regulating sleep time in mice - LKB1-SIK3-HDAC4/5-CREB, and proposed a new mechanism for transcriptional regulation of sleep. In the future, this study may help us to understand and solve the problems of sleep defects and sleep diseases, and further promote human beings to explore high-quality sleep and build a good state of life.
